Reading

Please use the useful information and links below to support your child with their reading and phonics.

Early Reading and Phonics

Click here to go to the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds parent page. The resources on the page will help support your child with saying their sounds and writing their letters. There are also some useful videos so you can see how they are taught at school and feel confident about supporting their reading at home.

Reading at Home

To support your child's reading journey, all children learning early reading and phonics (including thos taking part in rapid catch-up and fluency) take home a Little Wandle decodable reading practice book or a Little Wandle fluency book each week. These books allow children to practise the reading skills they are learning in school. Please support us by listening to your child read this boiok each week.

In addition, children bring home a Reading for Pleasure (library) book each week for you to share and enjoy together. We encourage all families to read with their child regularly and aim for children to read at home at least four times each week. Class teachers monitor home reading and our whole-school target is for at least 75% of pupils in every class to read at home four or more times each week. Your support makes a huge difference to your child's progress and enjoyment of reading.
